Chris Carter made his mark in television history in a big way with The X-Files and Millennium back in the 90s. Gale Anne Hurd became one of the biggest producers in film with The Terminator, Terminator 2, and Aliens, and more recently in television with AMC’s The Walking Dead. Now, according to The Hollywood Reporter, the two TV/film legends have teamed up to create a new series for AMC titled Area 51. Seems right up Carter’s alley. Hit the jump for details!

Book Review: BACK TO FRANK BLACK: A RETURN TO CHRIS CARTER’S MILLENNIUM

Written By: Dan Geer

Back in 1993, Chris Carter was a new name to the television business when he delivered the pilot episode for The X-Files, a science-fiction series that raised the stakes for what could be done with fictional storytelling on TV, and gradually became one of the Fox network’s biggest hits. By the time the show’s third season rolled around, it was clear to Fox that Chris Carter had practically become a household name, and that any new series with his name on it could potentially give the network its next groundbreaking success. In light of this revelation, Fox decided to give Carter another crack at developing something entirely new for the network that might captivate audiences just as much, if not more than The X-Files. Millennium was Carter’s bold response to that challenging proposition.

Companion Book to Chris Carter’s MILLENNIUM TV Series Set for a September Release

Source: Back to Frank Black | Fourth Horseman Press | Posted By: Dan Geer

millennium

It has been a while since PopcornMonster.com’s last report regarding the Back to Frank Black campaign and their efforts to get a movie made based on Chris Carter’s much beloved cult TV series Millennium, which starred actor Lance Henriksen (The Terminator, Aliens) as the main character, Frank Black, and ran for three seasons on the FOX network before it was canceled in 1999. While a movie still has yet to be green-lit, whether in the form of a feature film or TV movie, the movement still continues to gain support from Carter, Henriksen, series producer Frank Spotnitz, and countless fans all around the world.

BTFB‘s latest effort comes in the form of an extensive companion book to the series titled Back to Frank Black: A Return to Chris Carter’s Millennium, slated for release by the end of this month. The book includes forwards by Henriksen and Spotnitz, as well as an introduction by Carter. The book’s content consists of a number of interviews with the cast and crew from Millennium, including writers Glen Morgan and James Wong (who wrote some of my favorite episodes from the show), and even boasts an essay written by fan-favorite Brittany Tiplady, who played Frank Black’s daughter. Also included are various essays from a number of well-respected authors with a wealth of knowledge regarding the TV series, including award-winning media critic John Kenneth Muir, who recently published Horror Films of he 1990s last year.

For Millennium enthusiasts, this book is definitely a must-have, and a great way to show that the fanbase behind the series is still very much alive and well, and continues to gain new fans to this day. Producer Frank Spotnitz Makes Statement Regarding X-FILES 3

Source: Big Light | X-Files News | Posted By: Dan Geer

Frank-Spotnitz

Fans of The X-Files TV series and movies know that a third film has been talked about ever since The X-Files: I Want to Believe came and went in 2008, despite the second film not performing as well at the box office as 20th Century Fox had hoped it would. Various members of The X-Files cast and crew have expressed a strong desire to make a third movie, including actors David Duchovny and Gillian Anderson, as well as creator Chris Carter and producer Frank Spotnitz. While some were let down by the last film, most X-Philes still want that third movie that would deal with alien colonization in 2012 – a subject that was arguably the biggest plot point of the entire series that never really got resolved because, well, it wasn’t the year 2012 when the series ended.

But, now that 2012 is here, and the Mayan calendar is coming to an end on December 21st, fans of the series have been questioning whether or not a third movie is even possible this year. In response, Spotnitz addressed the issue in a blog post today over at his Big Light website (I like to think my recent message I sent Spotnitz compelled him to write it… wink, wink). Read on to see what he had to say regarding the possibility of a third X-Files film being released this year!

The X-Files Lexicon Conducts an Exclusive Interview with Writer/Producer Glen Morgan!

While Glen Morgan may not be a name that is immediately recognizable to the average movie/TV fan, it is more than likely that most are familiar with his work. Whether it’d be through TV series such as 21 Jump Street, The X-Files or Millennium, or films such as Final Destination and Willard, the man has had quite an extensive career in storytelling. For me, he wrote some of my all-time favorite episodes of The X-Files, including “Home,” which was banned from network television after its first airing because of the episode’s intensely dark subject matter and visuals.

Over the years, the general perception amongst Glen Morgan fans has been that creative blood existed between he and his colleagues at Ten Thirteen Productions, and that, because of it, Morgan was unwilling to discuss his work on The X-Files, Millennium, etc. In a recent (and rare) interview conducted by Matt Allair from The X-Files Lexicon, Morgan got the chance to shed some light on the subject, as well as provide some interesting insight into his amazing career. X-Files Creator Chris Carter Developing New “Police Thriller” Television Series!

Source: THR | XFilesNews.com | EmmyTVLegends | Posted By: Dan Geer

Chris Carter

This is a day I have been waiting for ever since FOX’s hit sci-fi series The X-Files ended its nine-year run back in 2002. THR is reporting that the show’s creator, Chris Carter, is finally returning to the small screen with a new “female-lead mystery police thriller” with a “supernatural element” to it titled Unique. No word on what network will pick up the show, which is being set up through Media Rights Capital, but my guess is that FOX will be fighting for this one.

Despite being an in-demand director and producer, Carter has pretty much been off the grid since The X-Files ended, with only a brief return to the big screen in 2008 with The X-Files: I Want to Believe, the franchise’s second (and hopefully not final) feature film. After developing such a widely popular TV series that put the FOX network on the map back in the 90s and redefined what could be accomplished on television, it was pretty much inevitable that Carter would return to the small screen.

X-FIles FTF

Last March, Fox All Access claimed that discussions for a third X-Files film were indeed happening. While X-Philes everywhere wanted to believe, skepticism naturally took hold of some. Whether we believed FAA or not, fans were still looking for confirmation from X-Files creator Chris Carter or someone who would be in the know.

As it turns out, fans finally got an answer today at a charity event held by IBG Inc. (Inspire-Believe-Give) in Beverly Hills, CA where a Q&A session was held with X-Files actress Gillian Anderson and her former co-star David Duchovny, with Chris Carter arriving later to answer some questions as well. Hit the jump to check out what they had to say about The X-Files 3!

Review: BATTLE: LOS ANGELES

Written By: Dan Geer

Battle LA

The alien invasion genre is one that has existed for decades, making it seem tired and worn out to many by now. While we may have enjoyed movies like The War of the Worlds and Independence Day in the past, it is really difficult to bring anything new to the table with each and every new movie in the genre, with District 9 probably being the least formulaic one we’ve had in a long time.

So where does that leave us with director Jonathan Liebesman‘s Battle: Los Angeles? To be honest, as far as the alien invasion aspect of it goes, not a whole lot except for maybe tons of gritty, butt-kicking action sequences and special effects that explode with realism. The movie starts off right away with the invasion, taking as little time as is necessary to set up the characters and making sure that we get right into the action. Nothing wrong with that, really, since that is the main reason people will be drawn to go see the film initially. It is truly a two-hour, jaw-dropping, mind-numbing display of visual chaos that completely entertains.

But where the film really excels is not in the visual spectacle (although it is impressive), but rather its heart. Make no mistake; unlike The War of the Worlds, Independence Day and even District 9 – this is a military-focused war film at its core with a true war hero at its heart.
